This driver is 7 years old. His parents (or other responsible adult) tends to hold him on the line until the others have left and then he races. His ponies go only so fast. There is an adult in the wagon holding the end of the lines so he isn't in a great deal of danger.
This blog is a day to day record of the life at our farm: the mules, the dogs and the kids.

National Champion Chuckwagon Races Oklahoma Land Rush
This driver is 7 years old. His parents (or other responsible adult) tends to hold him on the line until the others have left and then he races. His ponies go only so fast. There is an adult in the wagon holding the end of the lines so he isn't in a great deal of danger.
Opening Ceremonies
The Opening Ceremonies includes a group of local youth horse riders participating in a drill team. This year, as many others, they performed to a Toby Keith song. On Friday, a team of uniformed officers present the flag to the crowd. It is very moving. The kids always do a fantastic job and I am always impressed by the practice they have put in to the number.
Getting ready for the race

You are never sure what you're going to see at the races.
We stand between these two trees at the start line. This is a group of horse and mule riders from central Missouri.

Mule Clinic at Chuckwagon Races
Loren put on the Mule Clinic at the National Chuckwagon Races in Clinton, AR. He had a large crowd and I was told that he did a great job. Cole was around to assist with the clinic. The clinic lasted over an hour with Loren spending another hour answering questions from spectators.
