Extreme Cowboy Race

Loren's pictures have been posted at www.merrickstudios.com from over the weekend at Wichita. A couple of the pictures are pretty good. You can also find Loren's pictures from the Extreme Cowboy Race Invitational at Kansas City. Those pictures are much better - mostly because the event was outside and not inside. No matter how things come out - Loren loves these events. They are a challenge between him and the mule every time and each of them are better for having competed.

If you are interested in Extreme Cowboy Races, they are starting a couple new divisions: youth and adults over 55 along with the already established pro and non-pro. Our daughter, Cori, would have preferred an all girl division - maybe that will come in time!!!!!

Extreme Cowboy Race Round 1

This is Loren and Hoosier's run on Friday night at the expo in Wichita. They did a great job and ended up 5th going into the finals. One judge did not like the mule - the score ended up being 11 points different from the other judge. Judges are not all created equal.

Extreme Cowboy Race

This is the Finals at the Extreme Cowboy Race at Kansas Horse Council.

Extreme Cowboy Race

We just got home from the Kansas Horse Council's Horse Expo. We competed in the Craig Cameron Extreme Cowboy Race. There were 30 cowboys (and some cowgirls) and 3 of those rode mules. We were very pleased with Hoosier's results - of course we thought he should have won. There is still some discrimination in judge's against a longer ear. Craig Cameron tells the crowd that he doesn't care what you ride - horse, pony, mule - that it's how they ride that counts. I don't think he got his point across very well to the judges. One of the judges clearly did not like the mules. Loren had a clean run. He didn't knock anything over. He didn't fall off. He kept the golf ball on the cones. Clearly not everyone is ready to look at the results not the animal being ridden. I would certainly like to see how judges are chosen change now that they have started the Extreme Cowboy Race Association. I also would like to see something in the rules indicate that someone who runs it clean should place over someone who fails an obstacle. Sort of like with team roping - a slower time on 4 catches should beat a faster catch of only 3 head.

With every association - if you don't like the rules, don't play. It's like when you were a kid on the playground, the kid who had the ball made the rules. If you didn't like the rules, get your own ball.

Extreme Cowboy Race

Loren will compete Friday night at the Cowboy Race in Wichita. He is in the middle of the pack for Friday night's entertainment.

Craig Cameron and Bill Hull have started a new Extreme Cowboy Association. You can find more information about the new association on their website, www.extremecowboyassociation.org. The rules are posted as well as a membership form. Take a few minutes and look at the photos of past races that are posted as well as photos of possible obstacles.
